In a world that rewards constant productivity, autumn invites a different kind of rhythm, one that values release as much as creation.
For remote professionalsβespecially those of us designing lives outside traditional structuresβthis season becomes a gentle teacher in the art of aligned living.
πΎ The Lesson of Letting Go
We often hold onto roles, responsibilities, or identities that once served us:
a familiar work rhythm, a way of showing up for others, or a belief about what βsuccessβ should look like.
But as Jon Kabat-Zinn reminds us,
βItβs all a part of the curriculum.β
Every cycle of holding on and letting go is an essential lesson in becoming more resourced, rooted, and alive.
π A Personal Reflection
In my own journey, Iβve noticed how tightly I was holding onto certain ways of working in my businessβseeking a sense of safety and control, even as I sensed that new opportunities were waiting to unfold.
As Iβve practiced loosening my grip and allowing what no longer fits to fall away, Iβve discovered something unexpected underneath:
β¨ deeper connections
β¨ renewed energy
β¨ greater clarity
β¨ more space to create in ways that feel truly aligned
This theme echoed beautifully during the AVL Digital Nomadsβ October Leadership on Tap Meetup β βLeading with Heart: The Power (and Peril) of Vulnerability.β
The speaker, Andi Graham, shared her experience of powering through intense emotions and challenges in the days following Hurricane Heleneβshowing up confident and strong for her company and team.
In hindsight, she reflected on how she might have allowed a little more tenderness and care for herself and her family in that moment.
Her story was a powerful reminder that letting go isnβt just about releasing tasks or identitiesβitβs about softening the ways we hold ourselves.
When we loosen the need to perform or push through, we create space for something more honest, human, and sustainable to emerge.
π¬οΈ Practice: The βLeaf Dropβ
Take ten mindful minutesβmaybe between meetings or just after closing your laptop for the day.
Sit comfortably and feel your feet connect with the ground.
Bring to mind a role, responsibility, or belief that feels heavy or outdated.
Imagine it as a leaf on your energetic treeβready to release.
Take 10 full breaths. With each exhale, visualize it drifting gently to the earth.
πΏ Trust that in letting it go, youβre creating space for whatβs next to be nourished.
ποΈ Remember
Rest, reflection, and release arenβt detours from the pathβ
they are the path.
As we navigate our work and wellbeing this month, may we feel supported in the flow of life and resourced from within.
