Thrive Remotely champions the sovereignty of remote and independent professionals, so we can thrive on our own terms.
Remote and independent work gave you the territory: your time, your choices, your days. It didn't give you the operating system to govern that territory well. That's the Gap, and left alone, it doesn't stay neutral. The Alliance exists to close it. Not a company, not a platform. An alliance, built the way any sovereign power is: on mutual support and shared intelligence. The adversary was never a boss. It's the space between the life you were handed and the life you actually design.

For some people the Gap turns into isolation, the kind that shows up in your body before you name it emotionally. For others it's burnout with no manager around to notice the early signs. For others it's an invisible career, real work with no one positioned to see it. For others it's boundaries that erode so gradually you don't notice until they're gone. Different symptoms, same root cause: freedom without the systems to hold it. Closing that gap is the whole reason the Alliance exists.
Everything the Alliance builds, from tools to Outposts, closes a specific piece of the Gap. Here's how the three Pillars break it down.
Remote work should make your life better, not just more flexible.
Flexible hours quietly become all hours when no external clock enforces a stop. A nice home office solves for coziness, not for protecting focus or boundaries. This pillar is about designing, on purpose, the rituals and recovery a real office used to hand you by accident.
Personal growth is the prerequisite to independent career growth
No one checks your work, so quality and follow-through depend entirely on your own standards. No performance review, no peer nod of approval, so your self-assessment has to substitute. This pillar is the internal operating system: the discipline, focus, and resilience that used to come from having a boss.
You don’t belong to a company. You self-govern your operations
Real work gets done, but no one positioned to advance your career ever sees it. The organic networking that used to happen in an office doesn't happen by accident anymore, it has to be engineered. This pillar covers visibility, network, and the income streams that keep an independent career resilient, including AI and digital tools, filtered through one test: does this serve independent mastery, or is it just news..
A peer-guided intelligence network that closes the gap between the freedom of remote work and the systems needed to personally thrive.
Unregulated, noisy chat groups or forums.
Top-down, ivory-tower coaching or "guru" worship.
Escapist "digital nomad" fantasies.
Rigid corporate HR checklists or generic wellness advice.

I'm Ric Pratte. Before any of this, I spent years building B2B and SaaS companies, the kind of work that teaches you fast what happens when smart people get freedom with no system to run it. When I moved into remote and independent work myself, here in Asheville, NC, I felt the Gap before we had a name for it.
So I built AVL Digital Nomads. It grew into one of the more active remote-work communities in the region: real people, meeting in real rooms, trading what actually worked instead of trading advice. The momentum was obvious, so we took the model further under the banner of Thrive Remotely, helping launch similar communities in other cities.
That was the proof. The Gap wasn't local to Asheville, and it wasn't closing on its own. Thrive Remotely newsletter is what came next: the same in-person foundation, paired with the systems and shared intelligence to actually close the Gap, not just talk about it.
We're not here to debate return-to-office policy or teach companies how to manage distributed teams. We're focused on you: the independent professional who already has the freedom and wants the operating system to run it well.
