Thrive Remotely champions the sovereignty of remote and independent professionals, so we can thrive on our own terms.

Two Years of Thriving Together! πŸŽ‰

Hello, you wonderful freedom-loving humans,

TWO YEARS! πŸŽ‚

Two years ago, we hit send on our first issue with a hunch that remote workers needed more than another productivity hack.

Turns out, we were right. But you showed us just how much more.

Through your clicks, conversations, Outpost coffees, Friendsgiving gatherings, and the honest stories of nearly 40 guest writers, you helped us see something bigger.

Remote work gave us some freedom. But nobody handed us the owner's manual.

That's what we've come to call the Gap. The space between having flexibility and actually knowing how to thrive with it.

So we got to work. New frameworks. Evidence-backed insights. Masterclasses. Growing Outposts. And a whole lot of learning together.

This week, we're celebrating the stories, people, and milestones that got us here. And we'd love to see YOUR story in Year Three.

As a remote worker, freedom is easy. Thriving takes work.

And it's a heck of a lot more fun doing it together.

With gratitude,
Ric & Shellie πŸŽ‰

ANNIVERSARY

The Vanguard Hall of Fame: Year Two

Every Thursday for two years, someone stood up and told the truth about their working life. Not a guru. Not a brand. A Vanguard: an Ally a few steps further down the trail, writing for the rest of us.

This year, nearly 40 of them did it. Some showed up once and changed how we think. Others came back again and again, until their bylines felt like old friends.

This is our thank-you to all of them, and a closer look at six writers whose stories you read, clicked, and carried with you most.

ANNIVERSARY

The Year Two Roll Call

Every Vanguard who wrote for us this year. You went first, so the rest of us didn't have to figure it out alone. Thank you. πŸ™

πŸ’« You chose freedom. So why does it still feel like you have to defend it?
by Annie Landt – β€œAfter years inside a global company where flexible work was alternately celebrated and policed depending on who was in charge, I learned that the WFH debate has never really been about productivity. It's about values. Once I understood that, everything changed.”

πŸ’« The Energy Audit: What’s Actually Draining You (It’s Not Your Workload)

MEME OF THE WEEK

The Field Report

What's real this week, the gap between freedom and follow-through, closing.

Remote Work Didn't Isolate This Team. It Brought Them Together.

A management scholar followed one professional services firm as it moved from office work to mostly remote work, through 2024. The study drew on 275 interviews and about 330 hours of observation. Most staff ended up working from home four or five days a week. She expected their working relationships to break down, as much of the research on workplace relationships predicted. They didn't.

COMMUNITY CALENDAR

Close the Tabs. Open Doors.

This week, your calendar gets a social life.Β

Crawl Durham’s pubs, give back with Rescue Runners in El Paso, swap spooky stories over cider in Boise, or sip classy cocktails nine floors above Asheville.Β

Eight events, seven cities, zero Zoom links. Pick one. Bring a human.

POLL – NEXT WEEKS TOPIC

Next week: Designing a workspace that helps you be productive, not just makes you comfortable. Your workspace isn't neutral. It's either doing the work of focus for you or quietly working against it.
