Thrive Remotely champions of our sovereignty as remote and independent professionals, turning our isolation into mastery so we can thrive on our own terms.

Hello, fellow AI overachievers,

We get it. AI writes the email faster. Summarizes the meeting. Makes the list. Saves the hour.

Great. Now what if it could make you better?

This week, we're moving past task-doer AI.

Shellie's showing how giving AI real context turns it into a much smarter partner. Jason's showing why you should stop letting it agree with you and make it push back.

Better context. Better questions. Better thinking.

Because saving time is nice.

Upgrading the brain using that time? Much more interesting.

— Ric & Shellie

THE SOVEREIGN CAREER

Don’t Make AI Guess the Room

A smart answer needs context, not just a question.

By Shellie Sullivan

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned at Abby AI is that AI gets a lot more useful when you stop treating every prompt like a fresh start.

My counterpart and I use AI every day to help build almost every part of the business outside of the actual product development. Go-to-market strategy. Sales messaging. Customer conversations. Meeting prep. Follow-up. Branding. Positioning. Investor thinking. Content. Planning. The messy middle of building something real.

And here is what I keep learning:

AI is only as useful as the context you give it.

THE SOVEREIGN CAREER

Isolation Makes Bad Decisions Feel Fine

AI can be the dissenting voice remote work doesn't give you.

By Jason Alexander

Most people are using AI to move faster. That makes sense. Faster emails. Faster research. Faster summaries. Faster proposals. Faster content. Faster everything.

I get it. I use AI every day, and I’d be lying if I said the speed wasn’t valuable. It is. But I also think that’s the least interesting part of what AI can do.

The real power of AI is not that it helps you crank out more stuff. The real power is that it can help you think more clearly before you act.

LAST WEEK’S POLL RESULTS

How does AI actually sharpen your thinking these days?

“It forces me to step back and think through what I’m really trying to do. I know that I am instructing the equivalent of a teenage analyst. Therefore, my instructions have to be clear and thorough.”

An interesting view that the common pursuit of "work-life balance" often leads people to accept mediocrity and guilt rather than genuine satisfaction. Instead of merely seeking lighter schedules to cope, the author challenges individuals to re-examine their environment and prioritize radical honesty about their career goals. Ultimately, the author posits that true liberation comes not from flexibility, but from the courage to pursue work that is personally meaningful and to build a life that accommodates those priorities.
